Genesis 8:4-21- A New Creation

Glory be to Jesus Christ!

God made a reboot of creation. Having seen the wickedness that the world had descended into, and regretting His creation of the world, God begins again.  We often focus on the death and destruction which ensues in this story, and sometimes forget the saving message of the story as well: Noah and his family (and their families) are saved by God. What is happening here is not simply the annihilation of sinful humanity, but the recreation of the world. Noah and his family, in a very special way, will cooperate with the Lord’s plan through bringing animals and human beings into the the New World. From the chaotic waters God brought order and established the world. God will see Noah’s family through the chaos of the flood and they will help Him to establish the second creation.

And we often forget that it doesn’t stop with Noah. Human beings, made in the Image and Likeness of God have been given the amazing ability to be creative in maintaining and caring for the world that the Lord has given to them, and even more amazingly, to cooperate with God in bringing new human life into the world! We do not have a God who “got the ball rolling” and then went on an extended coffee break, but one who created the world and continues to inspire and empower us to cooperate in His creation! We must treat this amazing vocation with the amazing awe, respect and reverence that such a high calling demands.

Glory be to to Jesus Christ!
